What is the SHCC Community Read-A-Thon?

The SHCC Read-A-Thon is more than just a fundraiser. It’s a way to encourage youth (and community) to get lost in a good book, where you are free to explore your dreams and learn from the characters you read about. Read-a-thons also promote reading and reading is a good thing. Teachers across the country are seeing more and more students struggle with reading. Pandemic school closures and remote instruction made learning to read much harder, especially for young, low-income students who didn’t have adequate technology at home or an adult who could assist them during the day.

What are the dates of the Read-A-Thon?

Registration for this year's SHCC Read-A-Thon launches January 18, 2022. The reading challenege runs February 18 through March 18, 2022.

What should my reading challenge be?

The rules are simple. Read whatever you like, as much as you can, between February 18 and March 18, 2022.

How you tally the reading varies; you can choose to count chapters, pages, or reading periods (minutes, hours, sessions), but the most common model is to read as much as possible during the designated time period. We really want to encourage you to step outside the norm and develop your own unique and challenging way to make reading fun and engaging!
