Welcome to the 2nd Annual SHCC Community Read-A-Thon - one of our biggest community fundraising initiatives! Registration opens January 18, 2022 and the reading challenge runs February 18-March 18, 2022.

Readers of all ages, experience levels, and tastes are invited to take your reading habits to new heights while supporting SHCC. Challenge your friends and family to support your reading goals and earn exciting prizes when you reach milestones!

The SHCC Read-A-Thon is more than just a fundraiser. It’s a way to encourage youth (and community) to get lost in a good book, where you are free to explore your dreams and learn from the characters you read about. Read-a-thons also promote reading and reading is a good thing. Teachers across the country are seeing more and more students struggle with reading. Pandemic school closures and remote instruction make learning to read much harder, especially for young, low-income students who don’t have adequate technology at home or an adult who can assist them during the day.

Register as an individual or create a team. Either way, we hope you have fun while supporting Sara Holbrook Community Center. All of the funds raised from the SHCC Read-A-Thon will help support vital programs and services for children, youth, and families in our community.

The Mission of Sara Holbrook Community Center is to develop responsible and productive children, youth, and families through social development, educational and recreational opportunities.

The Center serves Chittenden County primarily focusing on the North End of Burlington.

Annually, 4,000 individuals including immigrant and refugee populations attend the Center's events and use the Center's programs including preschool, after school care for elementary school students, elementary school-age summer camp, teen programs, youth adventure camp, year-round middle school enrichment classes, English classes for adults and children, and emergency food assistance for the Burlington community.
